The Last Confession
Detective Ryan Carter stared at the old priest sitting across the interrogation table. Father O’Malley had walked into the station just an hour ago and quietly asked to confess to a murder.
“I killed him,” the priest said, his fingers gripping the rosary tightly.
Ryan exhaled. “You’re talking about Vincent Morelli?”
The priest nodded. “I poisoned his wine during confession. He was a monster. He confessed to six murders, and I… I knew he would never stop.”
Ryan leaned forward. “So you became judge, jury, and executioner?”
Father O’Malley’s hands trembled. “God forgives, detective. But I don’t think He’ll forgive me.”
Ryan sighed. He had been chasing Morelli for years, but this wasn’t justice. It was just another crime.
