Love Under the Stars

*She’s gorgeous.*
That’s all I can think as I watch Angela stargaze beside me. The soft smile playing on her face is so peaceful. She looks happy, lying in the bed of my truck on the blanket she put in it. In my hoodie because she got cold. With the soft sounds of cicadas singing in the trees around us. This moment is so perfect I think I might be dreaming.
“I know it’s pointless to count stars, but…” She trails off in a soft, contemplative voice, her gaze not straying from the sky.
“It’s also pointless to count freckles, but I know you have 17 on the right side of your face,” I whisper without thinking.
This makes her turn her head towards me, and those warm, curious brown eyes meet mine. She has even more freckles on the left side. God, I could stare at her perfect face for hours, and it still wouldn’t be long enough.
Her freckled cheeks begin to pinken in the moonlight, and if I thought she was gorgeous before, she’s absolutely stunning now.
She links her pinky finger with mine, and it sends a bolt of heat up my arm. We lay there, the stars forgotten, as we slowly entangle our hands. Hers fits so perfectly in mine. I never want to let it go.
I bring our joined hands to my lips and press a featherlight kiss to the back of hers before settling them back down between us. This only makes her cheeks grow brighter. It makes me smile, and she smiles back at me.
When Angela’s looking at me like this, the rest of the world fades away. The hard truck bed beneath us feels like a cloud. The loud music from the cicadas blurs in the background of my mind. It’s like the world has stopped for us to live in this moment just a few seconds longer.
“Blake?”
“Hmm?”
“I think I love you.” Angela’s voice is barely audible.
Wait. Did she actually just say that?
“I think I love you too.”
Wait. Did I just say that? Did we really just say that we loved each other?
I think this is the best day of my life.

I think I’ll add this scene into my book. How is it?
